Email Newsletter Redesign

George Brown College is a public, fully accredited college of applied arts and technology with three campuses located in downtown Toronto and has a growing network of over 190,000 graduates.

The Brief

There are two email newsletters that are sent to George Brown College graduates on a monthly basis which have the same template design. The first newsletter sent out during the first week of the month provides graduates with career development opportunities while the other newsletter promotes affinity partners that include banking and insurance companies, along with local attractions.

The design of the newsletters had not changed in about 4 years so it was time to bring it up to speed and refresh its outdated look.

The Approach

I created a modern, clean and professional email design with a blue colour scheme that is consistent with the college’s brand. The signature blue color is associated with trust and confidence, central to the college’s values and is also used to draw attention to important text and calls to action.

With regards to hierarchy, the featured content is placed at the very top and includes personalization tags that populates with the name of each subscriber. There is also a section at the bottom to highlight notable grads from the college and the footer design has been updated with a brighter colour scheme with borderless and cleaner looking social media icons.

To create the new template, I used Adobe XD to create a high quality wireframe and then used Salesforce Marketing Cloud to develop the newsletter using a responsive template.
